GILLESPIE: UNIT B

dallas, texas

1000 sq ft

2 bed/ 1 bath

completed: 2009

Originally constructed in the early 1960s, this townhouse unit presented both spatial limitations and opportunities for transformation. Despite its compact footprint, the home benefits from a small entry courtyard and a large rear window wall, elements that bring natural light deep into the interior throughout the day.

The renovation focused on reworking the ground floor to create stronger connections between spaces. Interior partitions that once defined the kitchen were removed, opening the plan and integrating the cooking and living areas into a continuous, more functional environment. The relocation of the washer and dryer to the upper level freed valuable floor area and allowed for a complete redesign of the kitchen, aligning modern living needs with the home’s modest scale.

This project demonstrates how careful interventions—through spatial reconfiguration and the strategic use of light—can renew a mid-century townhouse and enhance its relationship to daily living.
