Modern Residential Architects Dallas TX
A.GRUPPO Architects has designed modern homes in Dallas since 2005. Founded by Andrew Nance AIA and Thad Reeves AIA, our practice is built on a single conviction: that architecture should respond precisely to its site, its occupants, and the specific conditions of place. In Dallas, that means working with urban lots in neighborhoods like Little Forest Hills and Urban Reserve, navigating the scale and character of Southlake and University Park, and finding the right material and formal response for each client's program and way of living. Every project begins with close observation and ends with architecture that is grounded, durable, and distinctly of its place.
Each one reflects our approach to modern architecture: working with clear constraints, using a restrained material palette, and shaping space through form, section, and light. These homes are modern in both spirit and execution - designed to last, not just impress.
At Agruppo, our residential work begins with context - each project is an opportunity to explore how design can respond to site, light, and the needs of daily living. In Dallas, our efforts reflect a commitment to modern residential architecture that’s both spatially rigorous and sensitive to the life unfolding within.
We approach each home as a collaboration with the landscape, with material, and with the client. Projects like Groveland, Southlake, and Trammel illustrate how modern design can elevate the everyday, whether through subtle interventions or comprehensive rethinking.
At Groveland, we worked with a narrow urban lot to create a series of calm, light-filled interiors that open to private outdoor courtyards. The result is a residence that feels expansive in scale despite its compact footprint, achieved through deliberate orientation, daylight strategy, and material restraint.
Southlake presented the opportunity to reinterpret familiar residential forms through a modern lens. The home introduces layered transitions between interior and exterior spaces, framed by deep overhangs, generous glazing, and a neutral palette that foregrounds natural light and landscape.
With Trammel, we revisited a conventional residential layout and introduced a series of refinements aimed at clarity and flow. By reorienting circulation and opening key connections to light and exterior views, the design creates a quiet sense of order, balancing privacy with openness in a way that supports both daily routines and long-term adaptability.
Together, these homes reflect our approach as modern residential architects in Dallas grounded, intentional, and always in dialogue with place.
Dallas Neighborhoods We've Worked In
A.GRUPPO has completed residential projects across Dallas and the surrounding DFW communities.
Named projects from our Dallas portfolio include work in:
-
Little Forest Hills / Urban Reserve — Groveland House, 16 Vanguard, 17 Vanguard
-
Greenway Parks — Emerson Residence renovation
-
Southlake — Southlake Residence
-
North Texas — Trammel Residence
-
Aldwick Circle — Aldwick Residence
Each of these projects reflects the specific character of its neighborhood and site — not a signature style imposed from outside, but a design developed from the conditions at hand.
A.GRUPPO designs custom homes for clients who want architecture — not a plan book. Each project begins with a site analysis and a direct conversation about how the client lives: how they move through a home, how they want light to enter a space, how indoor and outdoor life should connect. From that foundation, we develop a design that is specific to the site and program, not adapted from a generic template.
Dallas custom home projects have included new construction on narrow urban infill lots in Little Forest Hills, contemporary interpretations of traditional residential forms in Southlake, and compact modern homes in Urban Reserve designed to maximize both daylight and privacy on challenging sites. Whether the program calls for a single-level residence or a multi-story home with distinct zones for work, family, and retreat, our process is the same: study the site, listen to the client, and design with precision.
Design-Build Residential Architecture in Dallas
A.GRUPPO is a design-build architecture firm — meaning we manage both design and construction coordination under one integrated process. For Dallas clients, this eliminates the gap that typically exists between what an architect draws and what a contractor builds. Design intent is preserved through every phase of construction because the team managing the drawings is the same team managing the build.
This integrated approach shortens timelines, reduces miscommunication, and maintains consistency in proportion, detail, and material quality from concept through completion. For clients undertaking significant custom home projects or complex renovations in the DFW area, design-build is not just a convenience — it is a meaningful improvement in the quality and accuracy of the finished work.
Home Renovations & Additions in Dallas
Some of A.GRUPPO's most significant Dallas work has involved transforming existing homes rather than building from scratch. The Emerson Residence in Greenway Parks — a post-war home renovated to introduce sculptural ceilings, a new central stair, and a carefully integrated second story — demonstrates how thoughtful architectural intervention can completely redefine a home's spatial quality without compromising its relationship to the neighborhood.
Dallas renovation projects present distinct challenges: working within existing structural systems, navigating city permitting for additions, and finding design moves that elevate rather than simply update. Our approach is to identify the underlying logic of the existing structure and amplify it — adding clarity, light, and spatial continuity rather than layering on surface changes. The result is renovation work that reads as a coherent whole, not a series of improvements applied over time.
