Modern Residential Architects In Central Texas

At A.GRUPPO, our residential work begins with context. In Central Texas and the Hill Country, every project is an opportunity to design in conversation with land, light, and the pace of everyday life. Our homes here reflect a commitment to modern architecture that is both exacting in its detail and deeply responsive to the people who live within them.

A.GRUPPO Architecture Firm Central Texas

We shape houses that feel native to Central Texas and the Hill Country, rising among limestone ridges, live oaks, and big skies. Our work spans new dwellings and renewed spaces that honor the land’s character while welcoming everyday life. Each project follows a simple ethic: use what belongs here, let light and shadow define rooms, and keep the design honest. These homes are made to endure, not just to be admired, offering calm presence in a rugged landscape.
Each house is approached as a collaboration—with the terrain, with materials, and with the client. Across the region, our projects show how modern design can elevate the ordinary, whether through subtle refinements of existing structures or the creation of new homes shaped by climate and setting.

The Oostwouder Residence is a residential complex consisting of three linked structures sited around an existing grove of live oaks that backs up to a bluff overlooking the picturesque Texas Hill Country and Blanco River. The main living and master suite are connected by a modern glass dining pavilion and main entry.

Ferrand Residence, a 1940s stone house in New Braunfels, was reimagined as a contemporary residence while preserving its historic core and clarifying its layout. A heritage live oak and hillside setting shaped the additions, with light, views, and material contrast tying old and new into a unified whole.

The Laman Residence transforms a 1970s modern home in San Marcos with a gallery, studio, library, and new master suite woven into the oak-filled site. Paired tower additions bring in filtered daylight and connect to gardens and outdoor rooms, creating a home that is both contemplative and dynamic.

A.GRUPPO Architects is a modern design practice with offices in Dallas and San Marcos. Each commission reflects careful spatial thinking, material honesty, and a clear dialogue with its environment.

Central Texas FAQ — A.GRUPPO Architects

How do you design custom modern homes in the Texas Hill Country and Central Texas?
We start with the land—its slope, light, and vegetation—and use those factors to guide orientation and form. The result is custom modern architecture that feels rooted in place while delivering livable, light-filled interiors.

Do you handle both new construction and residential remodels in Central Texas?
Yes. Our work spans new custom homes on rural lots and sensitive remodels of existing Hill Country houses. In both cases, we design for clarity, flow, and a long-term connection to site and lifestyle.

What design challenges are unique to Central Texas homebuilding?
Building here means responding to limestone terrain, steep grades, and wooded areas. We use these constraints as design drivers, creating outdoor rooms, terraces, and views that tie the home directly to its landscape.

Can A.GRUPPO take on commercial architecture projects in Central Texas?
Alongside residential work, we design offices, cultural spaces, and institutional buildings across Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, and beyond. Each project applies the same emphasis on context, proportion, and material integrity.

Are your designs tailored to Central Texas building codes and environmental requirements?
Yes. From Edwards Aquifer recharge zones to tree preservation and floodplain rules, we work within local codes while maximizing design potential. Our experience across multiple municipalities ensures a smooth path through permitting.

When should I contact an architect if I’m planning a home in the Hill Country?
The earlier, the better. Whether you’re evaluating a piece of land or considering a remodel, early conversations help us guide siting, feasibility, and overall design direction before major decisions are locked in.
